My top three fads, in no particular order are women's suffrage, the internet, and reading.

Women are suffraging?? We must stop the insanity! That's one thing that I hope goes away soon. I don't think I stand another minute of it.

Don't worry. We'll be back to not reading, using smoke signals to communicate, and having women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen soon enough. These fads all blow over soon enough. I'm guessing that these should run their course by next Thursday.

Fads are certainly no "American" phenomenon. Have you ever heard of Japan?
