For a decade, Russian academic Igor Panarin has been predicting the U.S. will fall apart in 2010... that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S.
Considering the recent economic malaise, people are paying a little more attention than usual. Here's how he says it would go:
[Ongoing] mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.
Here's a map of the USA as he sees it being by then:
So what do you think are the chances he's correct?
Is it possible to have less than a 0% chance of being correct? Americans are a remarkably, unmotivated, lazy people. It takes a lot of effort to do a revolution. We can't even get a college football playoff system in place.
ReplyDeleteAnd even if we do have that civil war, the groups that Igor comes up with are way off. Instead of using a map to draw arbitrary lines, you'd probably do better by looking at where loyalty to each of the the 6 BCS conferences, plus the WAC/Mountain West. The only places not covered? Alaska, Montana, and the Dakotas, which are unimportant to most of us.
Of course, if Igor's plan includes a playoff system for college football (and not some silly "plus 1" solution), then he may be in business.
Yeah, I remember reading about this a week or so ago. The resulting map the guy comes up with is rather amusing. Does he really think the European Union would admit West Virginia?
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's any doubt that he has no understanding of what America actually is.
ReplyDeleteOutside any movies he's potentially watched.
